Development and Validation of Control Algorithm for Variable Speed Fixed Pitch Small Wind Turbine

In this study, a power control algorithm of variable-speed fixed-pitch horizontal-axis lift-type 20 kW small wind turbine (SWT) was proposed and verified through dynamic simulations. The in study consists algorithms for Region II to track the maximum coefficient, II-1/2 maintain rated rotor speed, III power. To verify algorithm, simulations were performed at speed above which turbulence intensity based on IEC regulation’s normal model applied. As result, it confirmed that controller operates properly whole three regions including Regions II, II-1/2, III. performance then compared with variable-pitch controller. Although considered good target VSVP turbine, lower than conventional applied same turbine. Compared VSFP found have higher mean loads blade tower but fatigue terms Damage Equivalent Load (DEL) be reduced.
